WHO WAS THE GOD APOLLO?
Apollo was the god of the sun and then the sunlight because of him the ancients attributed the miracle of the sunrise every day, but it was also the patron of medicine and all sciences. In ancient Magna Grecia called him "Febo" which means "beautiful" and "pure" (the Romans were to call him Apollo).  It was also the god of all the arts, including music and poetry.
Some mythological legends tell us that this deity was seen as the son of Jupiter, the chief of the gods (from the ancient Greeks said "Zeus"), and who also had a twin sister, Diana, who was credited with the miracle of the moonlight (called Artemis by the Greeks). He was considered a very intelligent and very crafty god as well as beautiful in appearance.
Apollo appears in the paintings often depicted while trolling the chariot of the sun with a laurel wreath on his head, but the legend of this most beloved god by painters, is undoubtedly the one that talks about his crazy falling in love for the nymph Daphne: this girl did not return his love and to escape him, she begged her mother (the Earth) to save her, so it was transformed into a laurel tree. Apollo had to give her up and Daphne represents in this history the victory of the weak against the strong.
